Empowering the next generation of environmental stewards! The CESUD team recently joined forces with our vibrant Green Clubs, dedicated teachers, and motivated students across partner schools in Kakamega to conduct an intensive, hands-on demonstration on establishing and managing sustainable school kitchen gardens. Through climate-smart agricultural practices like organic composting and raised-bed garden management, we are equipping young learners with practical farming skills while enhancing school nutrition and food security. During the demonstration sessions: - Students actively constructed raised beds to maximize soil moisture retention and root aeration. - Green Club members learned how to transform organic school kitchen scraps into nutrient-rich compost, eliminating the need for synthetic chemical inputs. - Teachers and pupils established crop rotation layouts featuring iron-rich indigenous vegetables like African nightshade (Managu), amaranth (Terere), and spider plant (Saget). Together, we are growing a greener, healthier, and more sustainable future starting right in our school yards. 🌿πŸ₯¦πŸŒ± This project directly aligns with CESUD's commitment to school dignity, practical environmental education, and grassroots food sovereignty.
